Usage Notes for ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extensions for AutoCAD and Revit, and Smart Client DWG Editor
- Extension for AutoCAD. Restrict to Grid Command. You must select items by their boundary, and not by their asset text for the assets to appear in the grid.
- Smart Client. Launching CAD from the Restrict to Drawing and Highlight in Drawing Commands. If you are using Windows 7, either launch AutoCAD from the ARCHIBUS Drawing List or start AutoCAD by right-clicking on the AutoCAD icon and selecting Run As Administrator. Otherwise, Windows 7 inter-application security prevents ARCHIBUS from controlling AutoCAD, and prevents these commands from working (they launch a separate instance of AutoCAD rather than communicating with the active instance of AutoCAD).
- Extension for AutoCAD. New Drawings. If you are using Windows 7 and you find you cannot launch newly created drawings from the Drawing List, check the permissions on your project folder by right-clicking on the folder and using the Properties dialogs. In some configurations, Windows 7 creates as read-only folders under the \\<machinename>\aiprojects\ folder . To correct the situation, uncheck the “Read Only” toggle on the Properties box. Either cascade the changes to the subfolders, or make the same change on the subfolders (that is, make both the \myproject and the \myproject\drawings subfolders read/write).
Alternately, if you have a single-user workstation, you can change your Preferences/Projects form (or directly edit the afm-projects.xml file) to set the Drawings Folder for Smart Client value to access the files without using the share name (e.g. c:\users\public\archibus\myproject\drawings).
- Smart Client DWG Editor Installation. You can install the Smart Client DWG Editor and the Smart Client in either order. Once installed, use the Smart Client Preferences command to set your CAD Application preference to DWG Editor. Doing so will configure the DWG Editor to start the Extensions for AutoCAD when the DWG Editor starts.
If you uninstall and reinstall the Smart Client, follow these steps to reinstate the DWG Editor:- In the Smart Client Preferences form, set the CAD Application preference to "None." Press OK.
- Re-invoke the Preferences form and set the CAD Application back to "DWG Editor." Press OK.
- The program will reinstate the registry settings that allow the DWG Editor to load the Extension for AutoCAD.
