Whenever you want to perform an action on one or multiple drawing items, you must first create a selection set of the items—a set of items that are in selected mode and are ready to receive the action you perform. AutoCAD indicates that an item is in selected mode by highlighting it and adding grip handles (small white squares on an item’s vertexes).
In the image below, room 102 is selected.
To select a drawing item
Click on an item. AutoCAD highlights the item and adds grip handles.
To select a group of drawing items
Click on the items.
To cancel a selection set
Press Esc. AutoCAD cancels the selection set and removes the highlight and grip handles.
To toggle membership in a selection set
AutoCAD removes the item from the selection set.
Since individually clicking on items can be time-consuming, you may wish to make a selection set by windowing a set of items. The items you select when windowing depends on the window you use:
In the image below, all three rooms will be selected because a crossing window partially crosses all three rooms. This window was made by starting at the top right corner and ending at the bottom left corner.
