Installing the Assessment Application on a Handheld Device

Step 1: Download the Embedded Visual Basic Runtime

Before installing the PDA application, you must do the following:

• Find the embedded Visual Basic Runtime for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC 2003 in this location on the ARCHIBUS DVD:
  \pda\Windows Mobile 2003 evbRuntime\msvbppc.armv4.cab
• Install the above file on your PDA.
• If you are using Pocket PC operation systems with non-Latin 1 languages, you must switch to English before running the VB runtime installation and then switch back to the original language.

Step 2: Copy the PDA software to your hard drive

On the ARCHIBUS DVD, you will find a \PDA folder containing the software you need for running the Condition Assessment or Environmental Sustainability Assessment application on a handheld device.

From the DVD, copy the \PDA folder to a location on your hard drive.Typically system administrators installing the Web Central software will install the PDA software in a centralized file server location that can then be accessed by business process owners or facility managers installing the software on PDAs.

Step 3: Install the Assessment PDA application on a Pocket PC handheld device

To install the Condition Assessment or Environmental Sustainability Assessment software on a Pocket PC handheld device:

1. Hook up your Pocket PC device to your desktop system using the handheld device synching software that comes with your Pocket PC handheld device. You also need synching software on the desktop, and you must install the appropriate version of ActiveSync software.
2. From the desktop computer, run \PDA\PPC2002-WinCE 5-WinCE 6\setup.exe

3. The system informs you that it will create a folder entitled \Program Files\A_FM Assessments.

• If there is already a folder of this name containing the ARCHIBUS Assessments.arm 1100 (4K) v3.00.cab file, you must first delete the .CAB file.

4. Accept all of the default prompts. The software will be installed onto your PDA automatically.
5. Setup will prompt you to run some steps on your handheld device. Accept all of the defaults to complete the installation.
