Use the Projects command to create new projects hosted on the local machine for use by a single user or workgroup. The Projects command is enabled only if the Installation Type is full.
Local projects reside under the \Users\Public\ARCHIBUS folder (Vista) or \All Users\ARCHIBUS folder (XP). You cannot edit the project folder names for local projects; when you enter the Project Name, the dialog fills in the Project Files for you so that:
\projects\ProjectName\drawings.
\projects\ProjectName\graphics.
To create local projects, you must use one of the following database types:
MS SQL Server Express databases are always started as a service.
Sybase ASA Runtime projects must always be started as console services.
When you create a new local project, you can automatically create a new database and associate it with the project. For information on the content of the database, see Getting Started with Projects: Overview
To create a new local project:
Name: Enter a short unique code name, without any spaces, for the project you are creating, such as "myproj." The form uses this entry to create defaults for the Database File and the Project folders.
Project Title — Enter a descriptive name for the project you are creating, such as "My Project."
Is Active? States whether the Start and Stop Servers command should try to start this project database if it is local, or connect to the project database if it is an enterprise database.
Do not select the Is Active checkbox if you want to keep a project entry handy, but not necessarily start the project database every time you select the Start command. For example, you may wish to deactivate a test database, a localized database, prototype vs. production databases, databases used for different services customers, or the console or the services startup for the hq sample database. Alternately, you may wish to sometimes connect to an MS SQL or Oracle network database, but do not wish the startup to fail if that database is currently unavailable.
Database Type: For local projects, you can select Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere Runtime, Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere, or Microsoft SQL Server Express.
Create Database?: Select this check box to create the database. If you are creating the project for an existing database that you have copied to your workstation manually, do not select this check box. For example, if you have copied an existing database to use it to do "what if" analyses, do not select this option.
Database File:This is the location of the database file. When you enter the Project Name, the Database File Name is filled in for you, but you are able to change this. For example, if you are creating a project for an existing database, you can change the Database File name to the existing database file name.
The database file must be available directly to the operating system. Specify this file literally rather than relative to the Remote File Server Location (as the file should be local and should not need the overhead of going through the Remote File Server Location share).
Note: When you enter the Project Name, the dialog fills in the Project Files for you. Local projects reside under the \users\public\archibus\ folder. You cannot edit the project folder names for local projects.
The system creates a new project preferences file (afm-projects.xml) entry for this project, so that it is available on the list when you sign in.
Note: When you add a local project, you must start and stop the server before that project is available on the list of projects to which you can log in.See Starting and Stopping the Servers.
