When you select a task from the Process Navigator, a navigation page, the Dashboard, or the My Favorites List, the task runs a view.

Views are a window into the data repository and present dynamic reports and forms that are generated on-the-fly from the ARCHIBUS data repository.

Views determine the information presented at one time, such as:

the database tables to present
the fields within a table to present
if only records meeting a certain restriction should be presented
the order in which to present database records
if the data should be presented as editable or as non-editable in a report
if filter panels should be displayed so that you can restrict the view to showing a select set of data

Views can also:

display associated drawings
display analysis highlights in drawings
activate a drawing tool (Smart Client)
display business charts
calculate data
update database fields
display drill-down tables and charts with summary data. By simply clicking on an area in a table or chart, you can drill down to obtain the detailed contributing data.

Views are written in XML and stored in .axvw files.
