These are the system requirements for the complete service-oriented ARCHIBUS suite, which includes ARCHIBUS Web Central, the ARCHIBUS Smart Client applications, Smart Client workstations, and CAD and BIM workstations.
Sites that choose to use the Windows client/server version should refer to the separate system requirements for that version.
Note: In some cases, manufacturers have shipped versions of the application server, database server, or other components that are of a later version than is listed below. The manufacturers often warrant that these later versions are compatible with software, such as ARCHIBUS, that was written for earlier versions. This is most usually the case; however, the versions below are those that ARCHIBUS, Inc. has explicitly validated through its own tests.
U.S. English Language Versions and International Versions (Non-U.S. English Languages)
J2EE Servlet Container 2.5 supporting:
Validated containers for ARCHIBUS Web Central and Smart Client include:
Note: Your server hardware requirements will vary depending on the number of concurrent users you have working with ARCHIBUS. For more details. see About Server Sizing Specifications.
Note: IIS is supported via Apache JK. For information, see Deployment for Internet Information Server (IIS).
The following desktop browsers are supported:
Note: ARCHIBUS tests Web Central on the most recent versions of Safari, Firefox, and Chrome available at the time of release.
Additionally, you need:
Users of the Web Central 3D Navigator will need a Safari, Edge. Firefox or Chrome browser that supports WebGL.
The browser may disable WebGL if the graphics card and operating system is not "whitelisted", that is, one for which the manufacturer has verified that the driver supports the full WebGL protocol. Internet Explorer is not supported.
You may wish to visit one of the sites below to test if WebGL is supported on your browser.
WebGL support on mobile devices is relatively new and not very consistent. Support is dependent on the device itself, the operating system version, the browser version, and the complexity of the model, with some devices displaying simple models well but not complex ones. Use one of the most recent devices and operating systems, and test your chosen device for your intended purpose and type of model.
Workstations using the ARCHIBUS Smart Client will need one of these operating systems:
Windows 10, Desktop or Surface version, using the Desktop UI (not the Metro UI)
The Smart Client requires .Net Framework V.4.0 or 4.5.
The Smart Client requires these hardware items:
Note: As listed above, the minimum requirement is 2 GB of RAM; however, ARCHIBUS recommends at least 8 GB of RAM for the full installation because the system installs 64-bit versions of the database and of the application server. Additionally, the full installation has default memory settings designed to speed work with large drawings, long paginated-reports, and data-intensive transfers and workflow rules.
Workstation performing CAD or Building Information Modeling (BIM) tasks should have one of the following software packages:
You use the Smart Client Extensions for AutoCAD or Revit on 64-bit workstation.
Workstations using AutoCAD, Revit, or Autodesk Architecture may have additional hardware requirements. Please refer to your Autodesk product documentation.
For technical reasons, the GIS features of the ARCHIBUS Enterprise Graphics Publishing command are supported only on AutoCAD 2013 and Revit 2013 and later.
Note: ARCHIBUS does not run with AutoCAD LT.
If you are using the ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension with one of these Autodesk products, the Autodesk product will install a later version of the .Net Framework:
ARCHIBUS Product | Autodesk Product | .Net Framework Version |
---|---|---|
Smart Client Extension | for AutoCAD 2013 or 2014
for Revit 2013 or 2014 |
.Net 4.0 |
for AutoCAD 2015, 2016, or 2017
for Revit 2015 or 2016 |
.Net 4.5 | |
for Revit 2017 | .Net 4.52 |
The following summarizes the ARCHIBUS mobile app requirements:
This is summarized in the following table that lists the supported devices and operating systems:
Supported Device for ARCHIBUS Mobile Apps | Operating System |
---|---|
Apple iPhone Apple tablets: the iPad and iPad Mini |
Apple iOS 7.1, 8, 9.1, or 9.2 |
Android tablets and phones: Samsung Galaxy, and the Nexus 7. |
Android OS 4.4, 5.1. or 6 Note: Android 5.0 is not supported due to defects in this version of the operating system. Note: Many other Android device manufacturers certify that they are compatible with the listed operating systems or later versions of the same operating system, but ARCHIBUS has not verified these manufacturer's claims directly. |
Windows Phone, the Nokia phone, and the HTC phone |
Windows 8 phone |
Running the ARCHIBUS apps from a browser: You can also use the ARCHIBUS mobile apps on desktop and tablet computers running Windows operating system by loading the apps in the Web browser of your computer. The apps will work on HTML5-compliant Web browsers that support the SQLite feature, such as Safari and Chrome.
Note: The currently available Windows 8 Mobile devices are much slower than the devices available for the iPhone, the iPad, and Android. This speed difference is enough to impact productivity, particularly when working with drawings. ARCHIBUS does not support Windows 10 phone for the reasons stated in the Known Limitations section.
The ARCHIBUS Mobile Client 2.0 requires Web Central V.21.3 or later, and vice versa. Therefore:
Note: If you wish to use the new features of the V.23.1 Mobile Framework, such as multiple device support, or the new features of the V.23.1 mobile applications, then you must use the Update Schema Wizard to upgrade your ARCHIBUS database to V.23.1 format.
Manufacturers release new versions of the mobile operating systems almost monthly. Mobile is a frenetically-evolving domain, and new operating system releases on all platforms have been observed to contain defects and elements that are not upward compatible. Sites looking for uninterrupted support of their mobile users may wish to avoid automatic updates of operating systems on mobile devices before their system administrators have vetted them.
ARCHIBUS tests its mobile apps on the most recent versions of the mobile operating systems available at the time of release. ARCHIBUS ensures that mobile operating system, the mobile device hardware, the ARCHIBUS Mobile Client that accesses that hardware, and the server-side ARCHIBUS Web Central libraries that communicate with the client all work together to deliver features and data to mobile devices. New manufacturer releases of mobile operating systems may require your deployment install new components from ARCHIBUS.

With minor exceptions, you can use the V.21.1, V.21.2, V.21.3, V.22.1, and V.23.1 Smart Client and the Smart Client Extensions for Revit and AutoCAD interchangeably with the V.21.1, V.21.2, V.21.3, V.22.1, and V.23.1 Web Central application server.
For information on how to configure V.21.2, V.21.3, 22.1, and V.23.1, Web Central projects for use by the V.21.1 and later Smart Client, please see the bullet "Using V.21.1 Smart Client with V.21.2, V.21.3, V.22.1 or V.23.1" in the Revision History.
With minor exceptions, you can use all of the functionality of the Windows Client/Server version of ARCHIBUS with the same project database that supports the V.21.x Web Central and Smart Client programs. You should be using V.17.x, V.18.x, V.19.x, V.20.x. V.21.x or V.22x of the Windows Client/Server program in this configuration. Exceptions primarily involve compatibility with third-party software. V.17.x Windows Client/Server supports older browser versions and older versions of AutoCAD than do the V.21.x Web Central and Smart Client programs.
The ARCHIBUS Map Views depend on an embedded service from Esri, the ArcGIS Online Map Services. Currently, ARCHIBUS, Inc. arranges for these service feeds, and intends to leave them bundled with Web Central at no extra charge as long as ARCHIBUS, Inc. can continue to arrange the service. However, ARCHIBUS, Inc. reserves the right to discontinue this service at anytime without notice. This service is covered by the Esri Terms of Use (http://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/reference/terms-of-use.htm ) and not by the ARCHIBUS EULA.
