Cause types describe broad categories for the causes of the problems work requests are addressing. You can define cause types, associate them with work requests when updating the request, and then generate reports that summarize your work by its cause type.
You might want to define common causes of work, such as vandalism, wear, user error, new installation, lack of preventive maintenance, or accident. You could define Old as a cause to indicate that the equipment's age was causing the repair, or Unidentified to indicate that, in this case, the cause was unknown.
You can define any type of cause that you want to track for your work.
To define cause types:
The Define Cause Types form appears. The left pane lists any cause types already defined.
Cause Type Code. The unique identifier for the cause. For example, enter TC-CONFIGURATION
Cause Type Description. Enter a fuller description of the cause. For example, for TC-CONFIGURATION, you could enter "Mis-configuration of hardware or software" as the description.
After defining cause types, you can enter the cause type for a work request when you update it. See How to Update Work Requests.
You can then generate the Archived Work Requests by Cause Type report to assess which types of repairs are most numerous. See Updating Additional Information.
