asset type

An entry in the ARCHIBUS Asset Types table that controls all the information for a particular type of asset and the connection between an asset symbol of this type and a record. The asset type determines the default view to load when working with this type of asset; the layer on which the asset is stored; the type of drawing entity that asset inserting should generate (block or polyline); the table that holds the asset; justification, height, and other information about its asset text; the standards table; how to populate the asset; a default block that can represent the asset; and whether the asset is drawing-driven or database-driven.

Since each asset layer has a default asset type, entities added to an asset layer convert to asset symbols of the asset layer's associated asset type. See also current asset type.
