Responses to Hazardous Material Situations

As staff manages the hazmat process, they will need to choose from lists of statuses, reasons, responses, and so forth. Use these tasks to define the lists from which users will choose values for tracking the progress of a hazmat issue.

These tasks are similar, as each provides tables in which to categorize the hazard level. Interpretation of how to use these tables is open to how you wish to implement the application, thereby providing flexibility. One example of usage is: in the U.S., you can use one table to classify the hazard level by EPA standards, and the other to classify by AHERA standards.

As with other background data tables, you can optionally choose to associate each level or rating with a specific hazardous substance.

Be sure to complete the Highlight Pattern - ACAD field with a color for each ranking so that you can run the Environmental & Risk Management / Emergency Preparedness / First Responders / Highlight Hazardous Materials to highlight rooms according to the ranking or rating of the issues they contain.

Define Hazard Responses

Use this task to enter typical responses to hazmat problems, such as repair, encapsulate, no action.

The values that you enter in this view are written to the Repair Types table, used by On Demand Work. So that the system can filter responses that specifically apply to Clean Building, it automatically adds the prefix "CB" to the identifying value of any record that you create with this task.

Define Hazard Statuses

As you manage the hazmat process, you will need to update your hazmat project with various statuses to indicate the current aspect of the management process, such as Reported, Completed, Abated.

Define Hazard Abatement Reasons

Not all hazardous material needs to be abated. For example, if it is in good condition and not cracking it may not be releasing any hazardous substances and is best left alone. When you do choose to abate hazmat, you may need to provide a reason why abatement is the best course of action. Use this task to enter typical reasons that you choose to abate hazmat, such as it poses risk, a demolition project will cause harmful substances to be released through dust, and so on.
