remaining area

Typically, space managers want to account for every part of a floor's area, and do so by having CAD specialists outline a floor's vertical penetration areas, service areas, and departmental areas (specified either to the group or room level). Once these areas are outlined in a CAD drawing, space managers can use the remaining area calculations to determine the amount of area that was not captured in the space inventory.

Remaining Area is calculated as:

Internal Gross Area - (Total Room Area + Total Group Area)

If possible, space managers might wish to adjust their space polylines to try to capture this unclaimed area. If they cannot eliminate remaining area from the space inventory, they can charge back its cost among departments, similar to how the cost of common area is charged to departments.
