A Waste Processing Facility Rejects a Waste Shipment

When the transporter delivers the waste, with the accompanying manifest, to the waste processing facility, personnel at the waste processing facility inspect the waste and determine if they can accept it. Because the professing facility is accepting legal responsibility and custody of the waste, it is important that personnel verify that it matches the description on the manifest. Discrepancies may include:

If the waste processing facility cannot accept the shipment as received, they can partially or fully reject the shipment. In this case, the processing facility can create a new manifest that notes the problems and return the rejected waste with the new waste manifest to the waste generator.

As the waste generator is informed of the problem, they can update the original manifest so that this problem is electronically documented. They may wish to complete the following fields (For information on these fields, see Define Waste Manifest.)

When the waste generator corrects the problems and resends the waste to the processing facility, they can create a new manifest to accompany the corrected waste.
