The area in a building that is leased, or could be leased, to a tenant. Rentable area indicates the total income-producing area of a building, and is useful for analyzing the economic potential of a building. A floor's rentable area is calculated by subtracting its vertical penetration areas from the internal gross area. Compare usable area.
