Getting Results with ARCHIBUS

Understanding the Asset Management Applications

The Asset Management domain includes four applications that provide different levels of integration between asset management and the suite of ARCHIBUS applications.

Asset Management

Asset Management include consoles to manage assets throughout the lifecycle. These console provide data to enable you to optimize the use and disposal of assets. The information is targeted to the various stakeholders working with assets -- IT, finance, facilities, and department heads. The application's Telecom Console enables you to develop a telecom inventory, make connections, get an alphanumeric listing of the connections, and then highlight the connected items on floor plans. With the Equipment Systems Console, you can track an equipment item's relationship to an overall equipment system and manage dependencies.

Enterprise Asset Management

In addition to all the features of Asset Management, Enterprise Asset Management enables you to develop proposals for capital projects that involve your portfolio of assets, including property, buildings, equipment, and furniture. As part of this proposal planning, you can calculate space and asset requirements, and can link Proposed projects to space requirements and portfolio scenarios developed in the Space Planning & Management application. You can use the ARCHIBUS Connectors to process feeds from other enterprise systems and review reports to reconcile your ARCHIBUS data with your enterprise data. This is the only Asset Management application that includes these features.

Telecom Asset Management

Telecom Asset Management has a subset of the features available with the Asset Management application. The Telecom Asset Management application is designed for users upgrading from Windows Client/Server Telecommunications & Cabling Management who want the predominantly equivalent functionality in the Web Central environment but do not need the additional features available with Asset Management and Enterprise Asset Management. Asset Portal

Asset Portal is the original asset application and was designed to provide a Web-based method of developing asset data, as well as a Web-based portal into asset data that you developed in ARCHIBUS Client/Server. It includes tasks that focus on establishing fundamental data about your office, telecom, and facility equipment, and furniture-- where the furniture or equipment is located, the division, department and employee using it, its identifying code, the item’s classification or standard, and its condition. If you enter cost information for you equipment and tagged furniture, such as the purchase price, salvage value, install date (for equipment) and delivery date (for furniture), you can calculate depreciation. The features of Asset Portal are available in Asset Management and Enterprise Asset Management. However, some of the Asset Portal telecom features, such as cables, punch blocks, and positions, originated from Client/Server Telecommunications & Cabling Management and are not present in the Telecom Console presented by Asset Management, Enterprise Asset Management, and Telecom Asset Management.

Mobile Apps

Mobile apps are also available. Users in the field can access assets and update asset data from their smart phones or mobile devices using these mobile apps:

Asset Management Domain: Nested Applications

Enterprise Asset Management is a super-set of the Asset Management application. If a customer has Enterprise Asset Management, they do not additionally need Asset Management.

Asset Management is, in turn, a super-set of the Asset Portal application and the Telecom Asset Management application. If a customer has Asset Management, they do not need Asset Portal or Telecom Asset Management.

To provide flexibility in how you work, both Enterprise Asset Management and Asset Management applications provide access to the Asset Portal tasks and reports.

The following diagram illustrate the relationship between the applications of the Asset Management domain. As you can see, Enterprise Asset Management encompasses all the features of Asset Management, which in turn encompasses the features of Asset Portal and Telecommunications Asset Management.
