Drawing Egress Routes

Egress (exit) routes are critical to ensure that all occupants are able to escape the facility during an emergency. They are typically accessed by first responders and general staff sand consist of large, extended arrows that map the most direct route to the nearest means of egress.

Egress routes are stored on the REG-EGRESS layer. To see a typical egress plan, consult drawing HQ19 in the HQ sample project.

Once you draw egress routes, in preparation or in the event of an emergency internal staff, emergency responders, and the response team will be able to access this information using the Egress and Occupancy Plan task.

Note: Each egress route is considered to be a regulation compliance item; accordingly, the egress route asset symbols are linked to records in the Regulation Compliance Items table.

To develop an egress plan:

  1. On the Process Navigator in Smart Client or CAD, go to Environmental & Risk Management / Emergency Preparedness / Define Systems and Zones.
  2. If you are working in Smart Client and CAD is not active, select the Draw Egress Plan task. The task presents the Drawing List so that you can choose a drawing to work on. Choose the drawing, and ARCHIBUS loads your CAD tool, displays the selected drawing, and makes CAD the active application.
  3. In CAD, open a drawing (if necessary).
  4. Set a snap and grid as necessary. The Process Navigator in CAD includes these commands for your convenience.
  5. Prepare the drawing for working with egress routes by choosing Set Egress on the Process Navigator. This makes REG-EGRESS the current layer.
  6. Use polylines to draw the egress routes. For improved readability, you may wish to increase the width of the polylines.
  7. Assign the polylines intelligence by data editing them. This connects the egress route polylines to records in the Regulation Compliance Items table. You must complete the following fields:
  8. So that the drawings with egress information can be viewed over the web using ARCHIBUS Web Central, save the drawing with its egress information as an ARCHIBUS Enterprise Graphic file by running the Publish Enterprise Graphics command, located on the Process Navigator for your convenience.
