Use Case: Outside Contractors Complying with your Safety Standards

Objective

Often outside contractors are brought on site to perform specific functions. The contracted activities can include hazardous products - either products that exist on site, or products that the contractor brings on site. Outside contractors must comply with your organization's standards for dealing with hazardous products.

Solution

Hazardous products already on site

For products that exist at the facility, the on-site health and safety staff can provide lists of SDSs specific to the locations where the contractor will be working, either online or in a printable (paginated report) document via the Material Locations Highlight report.

Hazardous products that the contractor brings on site

When the contractor brings hazardous materials and products on site, typically they must provide the appropriate hazard information for these substances, including :

That information can then be entered into the SDS database using the Define Materials and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) task. In addition, the locations of these products can be entered using either Assign Products to Locations Using a Form or Assign Products to Locations Using a Floor Plan. Then, any of the reports discussed in the Access to SDS use case can be generated as required to disseminate information to those who have a need to know.
