Draw Group Areas

As part of the Group Inventory process, a CAD specialist needs to add group asset symbols to the floor plan drawing.

Groups are represented on the Group (GP) asset layer and are registered to the Groups table. Each group can be assigned a standard (from the Group Standards table) such as OFFICE_SUITE or LOUNGE, and a group number such as FINA or ACCT4.

Typically, before you add groups to your floor plan drawings, others at your site have developed background data about your facility, such as the names of buildings and floors and the types of groups (group standards) at your facility.

Procedure

  1. On the Navigator in CAD or in Archibus Smart Client, move to Space Planning & Management / Space Inventory & Performance / Group Inventory.
  2. If you are working in Smart Client and CAD is not active, select the Draw Group Areas task. The task presents the Drawing List so that you can choose a drawing to work on. Choose the drawing, and Archibus loads your CAD tool, displays the selected drawing, and makes CAD the active application.
  3. In CAD, open a drawing (if necessary).
  4. Set a snap and grid as necessary. The Navigator in CAD includes these commands for your convenience.
  5. Prepare the drawing for working with group areas by choosing Set Groups on the Navigator.
  6. Depict the floor's group areas by drawing rectangles and polylines. See Drawing Boundaries Accurately.
  7. Data edit the polylines, which converts the to asset symbols. For more information on developing Archibus asset symbols, see: Asset Symbols: Overview.
  8. So that your group plan can be viewed using Archibus Web Central or mobile, publish your group drawing as an Archibus Enterprise Graphic file by running your CAD tool's Publish Enterprise Graphics command.
  9. A Smart Client or Web Central user will need to run the Update Area Totals action, which calculates area and data.

  10. If you like, view your room plans in reports by accessing Smart Client or Web Central and running the Highlight Rooms by... reports.
  11. A Smart Client or Web Central user will need to run the Update Area Totals action, which calculates area data.
  12. If you like, view your group plans in reports by accessing Smart Client or Web Central and running the Highlight Groups by... reports.
  13. From the Archibus Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD, you can run the Highlight by Owner commands to highlight group asset symbols according to ownership, such as highlighting groups according to their department assignment. See Highlight by Owner Commands.
